Art of the Wish: Hundreds Connect with Voices of the Unheard
John Carney, our CEO, said from the beginning, “You have to experience it to appreciate its full impact.”
John was talking about Art of the Wish, the truly unique exhibition of art and stories depicting the wishes of elders that anchored the 2022 annual event to benefit the Center on May 12 at the Leedy-Voulkos Art Center.
More than 300 guests viewed 72 works of art created by artists Marn Jensen and Andy Newcom, lingering at each one to read the history behind the physical representation of each elder’s wish.
During a brief program, Marn and Andy recounted how Art of the Wish originated and introduced the audience to a few of the elders, drawing laughter and tears. A video about new directions at the Center – from artificial intelligence to democratic deliberation – demonstrated how the pandemic crystalized the urgent need to pursue equity and justice in the healthcare system. Art of the Wish remains open at the Leedy-Voulkos through May 28. We will keep you posted for additional plans in conjunction with the exhibition.
