Dobbs heightened need for your support for ethics in healthcare
Dear CPB Friend:
My involvement with the Center for Practical Bioethics – which eventually led to serving two years as Board Chair – grew out of navigating healthcare for aging parents. That experience made me realize the importance of having conversations with loved ones about their healthcare wishes and completing documents needed to ensure those wishes are met.
As I became more connected to the Center and as I now come to the end of my term as President of the Board of Directors, it is still amazing to see how ethical considerations in health and healthcare affect all stages and aspects of our lives.
Covid laid bare the many inequities in health and healthcare throughout our country and the need to consider issues from a public health perspective.
The use of artificial intelligence and machine learning revealed the need to mitigate bias and potential harm in the development of clinical software.
The Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade underscored the need to educate, engage and incorporate ethical considerations into policies that affect not only ourselves but our children and grandchildren.
Your year-end gift will help to ensure that ethical considerations
are front and center when issues about which
reasonable people can disagree are addressed.
In times like these, I believe equitable healthcare is an integral component of the Center’s vision to advance the health and dignity of all persons.
As you plan your 2022 year-end charitable giving,
please include a generous gift to the Center for Practical Bioethics.
Sincerely,
