Dr. Eva Karp retired from Cerner Corporation in September 2022,and currently serves as an adjunct professor for the Medical University of South Carolina.

At Cerner, Eva most recently served as the senior vice president and chief clinical and patient safety officer and had executive responsibility for defining Cerner’s clinical practices to optimize user experience, patient outcomes and organizational execution. She partnered with regulatory and legislative affairs teams and had responsibility for the clinical and provider voice related to clinical strategies, regulatory affairs, medical affairs, patient safety and data management. She was also responsible for the clinical, operational and strategic leadership necessary to drive high-value clinical practices and functions as the clinical leader for all organizations across the globe.

Eva co-chaired Cerner’s Clinical Executive Governance Board, ensuring the voice of the clinician is part of all product development and support initiatives. She engaged client organizations to understand their needs and optimize clinical workflows in order to achieve increased patient safety, and helped organizations navigate changes in the healthcare landscape while integrating Cerner’s strategies to achieve organization satisfaction.

At Cerner, Eva also developed three patents related to clinical workflow and innovations and contributed to the development of CareAware Infusion Management™. She continued to drive intelligence within clinical workflows and support clinical reasoning utilizing data and analytics from Cerner’s Lights On Network® to optimize clinical workflows across health care organizations.

Eva joined Cerner in 2001 and held roles within Cerner including Vice President of Strategic Clinical Solutions within the Intellectual Property (IP) organization, where she was responsible for defining the strategic direction and objectives for patient safety, clinical workflow, financial viability, regulatory standards and optimal outcomes across the continuum of care. Prior to joining Cerner, she had more than 30 years of experience in healthcare informatics and 12 years of neurological and surgical ICU care experience.

Eva has a doctorate in health care administration from the Medical University of South Carolina, a master’s degree in business administration from University of Phoenix, a bachelor’s degree in business management from Dowling College, and an associate degree in nursing from Miami Dade Community College.

She serves as the Immediate Past Chair of the Center of Practical Bioethics board of directors, as Board Chair for the Universal Health Foundation, and she is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE). Eva received a STEMMY award from Central Exchange for Groundbreaking Leadership in technology and was named one of the Most Influential Women in Health IT by Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS).
